Loneliness Awareness Week

Rosedale - Loneliness Awareness Week

There are awareness campaigns for almost anything you can think of nowadays, and this month alone is Pride Month and Men’s Health Month and also includes World Environment Day, Blood Donor Day, Father’s Day, World Gin Day and a whole host of others. As funeral directors, we thought a blog about Loneliness Awareness Week might be more appropriate than World Gin Day, so here goes:

Organised by the Marmalade Trust, Loneliness Awareness Week, runs from 15th June 2026 and holds special significance for Rosedale, because it aims to reduce the stigma of loneliness and encourage people to actively seek help.

At Rosedale, we see the impact of loneliness first-hand, especially amongst those who are grieving. Losing a loved one changes everything. For many bereaved people, it is not just the grief that hurts, it is the silence that follows. The quiet days, the empty seat at the table, the feeling that everyone else is getting on with their lives whilst your life has been turned upside down.

How our Bereavement Support Groups can help

We understand how isolating bereavement can be and this is why we run Bereavement Support Groups where people who are grieving can come together, share memories and feel less alone. Our groups are welcoming and informal, there is no pressure to speak if you don’t want to. Over time, many people tell us they’ve not only found comfort but friendship too. One lady who was feeling incredibly lonely now bakes a cake whenever a new group starts. Another gentleman even met a swimming partner at Beccles Lido. One pair who met through the group have become firm friends and even go on holiday together now, and other groups meet up regularly for lunch.

This year’s theme, “Meeting Loneliness Together,” is a powerful reminder that loneliness is a natural human emotion and one that we might all feel at times. As a family run business rooted in the heart of our community, we believe that small, consistent acts of connection make a big difference. If you would like to find out more about the support Rosedale can offer, please don’t hesitate to contact any of our branches.
