Community Kindness Comes Full Circle: Rosedale Backs Elsa’s Peru Trip

Introducing Elsa Bavin and her trip to Peru
We are proud to be sponsoring 16-year-old Elsa Bavin on an inspiring journey to Peru in June next year, where she will spend a month working with Camps International on vital community and conservation projects in the rural areas surrounding Cusco. Elsa will be living and working alongside local people, helping to improve access to education, sanitation and safe housing in some of the most impoverished communities in South America.
Camps International is an award-winning social enterprise specializing in educational expeditions and volunteer programs throughout Africa, Asia, and South America. Founded in 2002, the organization owns and operates permanent camps located in rural communities facing poverty or environmental challenges. Every camp employs local staff, sustains local culture, and acts as hubs for adventure, wildlife conservation, and community outreach projects. Each program integrates volunteering with cultural immersion, allowing participants to contribute directly to community needs and conservation efforts. Safety and ethical travel are prioritized, making Camps International trips life-changing experiences for young people worldwide.
Anne’s trip to Peru
This opportunity particularly resonated with us, as Anne Beckett-Allen was fortunate enough to visit Cusco herself some years ago with her mum on a Salvation Army trip. As well as completing the trek to Machu Picchu, they spent some time at a local school, meeting the students and helping with renovations, an experience that left a lasting impact. It’s heartening to see Elsa stepping forward in a similar spirit of service, keen to make a positive difference and fully immerse herself in Peruvian culture and away from traditional tourism.
Elsa’s family are well known in the Diss community, having run Weavers restaurant for many years. During the pandemic, they generously supported staff at Rosedale Funeral Home by providing delicious takeaway meals, a kindness that meant a great deal to our team during challenging times. We are glad to now support them in return by helping Elsa raise funds for her expedition.
As part of her fundraising, Elsa is inviting local businesses to sponsor her by contributing towards the cost of the trip, with logos and business names proudly displayed on T-shirts she’ll wear at events and during her time in Peru. We wish her every success with her preparations and look forward to hearing about her experiences when she returns.
