Schools Bereavemnet Training

Schools Bereavement Training is one of the important parts of the bereavement service Rosedale can offer. Now grief education is a compulsory part of the curriculum in the new school year, September 2026, it is the perfect time to equip your school with the tools and confidence to support every pupil.

Aimed at schools, education providers, pastoral teams, safeguarding staff in South Norfolk and North Suffolk, this interactive training is absolutely free of charge.

What can I learn in Schools Bereavement Training?

  • Support children experiencing bereavement
  • Talk confidently about death and grief
  • Recognise how grief can affect children in school
  • Feel confident in how to introduce loss and grief in a classroom
  • Using language around death and dying with children

You will also have access to lots of useful resources and bereavement support services.

Why should I attend?

From September 2026, schools in England will be required to include grief, loss and bereavement within Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSE). The change follows revised statutory guidance from the Department for Education, which states that pupils should learn that change and loss, including bereavement, can cause a range of feelings; that grief is a natural response to bereavement; and that everyone experiences it differently.

This new requirement is an important step towards creating more compassionate and emotionally informed schools. It will encourage pupils to support one another and help bereaved children feel less isolated.

For the policy to succeed, teachers will need suitable training, resources and clear information on the resources available to them. With Rosedale’s experience in providing education around this, you can be sure that the Schools Bereavement Training will give you everything you need to be able to teach this within schools in a sensitive way.
