The Pandanus coffin is made from wild pineapple leaf in Indonesia, an environmentally friendly alternative to seagrass which provides shelter to many varieties of nursery fish and is currently under threat from coastal development, dredging and urban expansion. Pandanus on the other hand grows rapidly on land even in adverse conditions. When woven it is almost indistinguishable from seagrass. This coffin is accredited with Fair Trade status and is suitable for burial only.
