Traditional
A traditional service can mean different things to different people, but usually involves a traditional hearse (and limousine if required) leaving either from Rosedale, or a home address and travelling to where the service will take place.
Alternative
This is any funeral that falls outside of what is considered a ‘traditional’ funeral. This can range from our bearing team wearing different coloured ties or our alternative uniform, or arranging a funeral that is themed: we have arranged funerals that have been unicorn, pride and motorcycle themed, to name a few so don’t hesitate to contact us if you have a specific requirement in mind.
Attended
An attended funeral can range from very simple with one or two mourners through to a highly involved funeral with several hundred people attending. Regardless of your needs, we can advise and guide you to ensure that your loved one’s funeral meets your expectations.
Unattended
Sometimes called a direct cremation or burial, an unattended funeral is where the person who has died is simply cremated or buried with no fuss, no ceremony, no service and no attendance.
Choosing Rosedale for the unattended funeral ensures you and your loved one receive our professionalism and care, and the use of a local crematorium (if cremation).
Memorial Service
This is a service where the burial or cremation has taken place already. This may take place on the same day as the committal, or days or weeks afterwards. Whatever your needs, we can help liaise with different venues and officiants, and provide service-sheets and music to name a few.
Environmentally Friendly
An environmentally friendly funeral one where the main consideration is to lessen it’s environmental impact.
For a long time, a green funeral was considered a separate type of funeral, however, we believe that it is important to make sure that elements of a funeral are more environmentally friendly by default. This means that it is easier than ever to have a funeral that has a positive environmental impact.
Burial
Burials normally take place in either a churchyard, cemetery or woodland burial park and can either take place before or after the main service (or the service can take place at the graveside). Burials can also take place on private land although there are certain requirements that need to be met which we can advise on.
Cremation
All branches of Rosedale are within driving distance of a number of crematoria.
After listening to your needs, we can advise on which may better suit your requirement in terms of space, transport, wake access, price and service length.
Religious
There are many different religions, each with distinct beliefs and customs. Although we most commonly assist people with Christian beliefs, please talk to us if you have any specific requirements as we have arranged Quaker, Greek Orthodox, Muslim, Jewish and Hindu funerals to name a few.
Non-Religious
In an increasingly secular society, it is not uncommon to be asked for a funeral service with no religious content. We work with a number of humanists and celebrants who will be able to help you achieve this, and we can advise on alternative funeral venues.
Bequeathal
This is where someone has made an official application to donate their body to medical science. However, it is important to remember that there is no guarantee of acceptance at the time of death as there are many logistical and medical requirements that need to be met first. We are experienced in guiding you through the different options regardless of the outcome.
Repatriation, Exhumation and Burial at Sea
This is where a buried person or ashes are to be moved to a different location, where someone who has died needs to travel to a different country (this may be out of or in to England) or where someone wishes to have their body buried in the sea. Please talk to us if this is something you are considering as we can guide you through the different options and what to expect.
Diverse and Inclusive
Diversity and inclusion is at the heart of Rosedale, and regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, age or ability, you can be assured of a considerate and respectful service. Our staff have undertaken comprehensive training in dementia awareness, basic sign language and the specific needs of the LGBTQ+ community to name just a few, and we can make special considerations for accessibility such as our documents in large print and wheelchair access. Please talk to us about any specific needs you have and we will do our utmost to accommodate.
Inspirational Funerals
Each funeral is unique, and we are privileged to have been able to support families in arranging a range of different funerals. From proudly LGBTQ+ to a memorial service following an unattended cremation, through to highly bespoke with many hundreds of people to very simple with three attendees, we will ensure each and every funeral is as unique as your loved one.
Child’s Funeral
Arranging the funeral of a child, whatever their age, can be hugely distressing. With strong links to the Children’s Bereavement Network, Time Norfolk and Nelson’s Journey, all staff at Rosedale undertake training to ensure that those bereaved of a child receive professional, sensitive and appropriate support as well as clear guidance on additional support that may be available.
