Lucy Coote is a dedicated professional with extensive experience in bereavement support, mental health training, and community engagement. She is an active member of the Norfolk Suicide Prevention Intervention Group (SPIG) and the Norfolk and Waveney Suicide Awareness Partnership.
A qualified First Aider, Mental Health First Aid Trainer, and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) practitioner, Lucy has spent over 15 years working within the funeral profession. Early in her career, she recognised the challenges bereaved individuals face in accessing compassionate and effective support. This insight led her to train as a bereavement support facilitator in 2012.
Building on this foundation, Lucy delivers a comprehensive eight-week bereavement support programme, through which she has personally supported hundreds of families navigating loss.
Training and education are central to Lucy’s work. She delivers sessions nationally, equipping individuals and professionals with the knowledge and confidence to support those who are bereaved, while also raising awareness of the wide range of support services available both locally and across the UK. Lucy is also an Ambassador for At a Loss, a national charity that connects bereaved individuals with appropriate support organisations.
As a Mental Health First Aid Trainer with MHFA England, Lucy is passionate about empowering professionals to confidently support individuals experiencing poor mental health. She is a strong advocate for breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and is committed to a future where organisations prioritise mental health first aid as equally as physical first aid.
Specialising in support for those bereaved by suicide, Lucy has designed and delivers a targeted training programme that equips professionals with the tools, understanding, and confidence needed to provide effective, compassionate support and guidance. Her work ensures that bereaved individuals are appropriately supported and signposted to the services best suited to their needs.
Lucy also serves as a Trustee for Hope After Suicide Loss, supporting families across Norfolk and Suffolk. In 2025, she was honoured to be selected as a Baton Bearer for the National Baton of Hope, recognising her contributions to mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
